The Montessori School of Coshocton, established in 1982, is a private, non-profit corporation. The school is governed
by a Board of Directors that is representative of the families and community served by the school.
Our mission is to provide Montessori programs for children, encouraging a child’s love of learning, independence, self
confidence and natural development.
We strive to offer our program to a culturally, economically and developmentally diverse population of children and families.
“Let us leave the life free to develop within the limits of the good, and let us observe this inner life developing. This is the whole of our mission.” -Maria Montessori

The Regular Day
9:00-9:45
As children arrive, they are encouraged to begin an activity of their choice; perhaps the reading or art area or perhaps work
that was not completed the previous day. The teacher may have selected special materials for some of our older children to
begin working on. After all of the children have arrived, the teacher will call all of the children to the circle. This is
a time when they begin acclimating themselves to a group situation, an environment that requires some patience and
respect for others. New materials are introduced during circle time. This time may also include sharing time, special
stories and songs, the calendar and weather.
9:45-11:30
Following circle, everyone enters into the main period of the day: individual work time. Children work independently with a
variety of Montessori materials and equipment. The teachers give children assistance and observe behavior and growth
among the children. A snack is available for any child that chooses. Group and individual work is encouraged.
11:30-12:00
At this time, we want to provide the children with outdoor activities if possible. If the weather is inclement, we will
introduce indoor play or games. Children then come together for group time at the end of class. During this final period
the group focuses on music, language experience, games or large motor development. It is an excellent time to wrap up the
classes’ work that day.

Kindergarten children along with
other 5 year olds who are ready for
more advance work will have a quiet
story time. The remaining afternoon
time is spent working with advanced
Montessori materials, storytelling,
and other activities such as music,
drama, or art. This is a wonderful
opportunity for the older children
in the program to have more
individual attention and social
interaction with their peers.
